This twist is soooo confusing me. Like so far as I understand, we all get 1 vote and one person from each pair is going. Is that how you understand it too?  

yes! everyone gets 1 vote, but 1 person from each pair of nominees will go. so say if 2 people from the same pair of noms gets the most votes, the one with more votes in that pair gets evicted. if that happens, it's essentially the 3rd person with the most votes that gets evicted
